About us

Antiqued Mirror is a small family business owned by Julius and Joanna. We're based between Bristol and Bath in a quarry that was roofed over in the war to provide a secret aeroplane factory in WW2. It's very cold and there's no natural light, but it's perfect for our purposes. We grew from The Looking Glass of  Bath, Julius' fathers company who have been handcrafting 'antique' mirror glass in their shop in Bath for over 30 years.

Julius grew up in the workshop making picture frames and gilding with his father, who did the same with his father when he was younger. We found sourcing old mirror glass for the frames was virtually impossible and so started to produce our own using traditional Victorian techniques to provide authentic looking mirrors for the antiqued surrounds.

The shop's traditional client base of interior designers saw our distressed mirror glass and were inspired. We found orders requesting bespoke aged mirrors began to grow until we had to move out of the barn at home and take on a bigger workshop, in our quarry, to accomodate our growing needs. Julius has also taken his wife, Joanna, into the family business to provide more organisation.

We've supplied thousands of square metres of our antiqued mirror glass around the world, from Scotland to Dubai, and were pleased to recently send some off to Downing St. after another company's mirror didn't quite meet their expectation. Our mirrors can be seen in palaces on walls and in lavatories on floors, and in one circumstance both at the same time! Our traditionally hand silvered mirror glass has had a fantastic response from a variety of clients and give more character and warmth than any harsh modern mirror.
